Page Template vs. Custom Post Template

  • I need to make a template that is full width. There is the full width template for PAGES, but I need one for this custom post type in this particular theme.

    What is the difference between the two? And how should I go about figuring out how to take a page template but insert it in as a post template? There are two templates for this custom post – so should I take one and try to edit out the side content?

    The theme is Samba.

    I guess can I use the Custom Post Type Page Template plug-in to use the full width page. Then purchase the OTW Sidebar & Widget Manager to insert a sidebar to customize my pages & insert a widget for what I need.

    This sounds like a roundabout way so if there are better suggestions, I’m open to it.

    I just need my custom post type template with a right sidebar so I can customize that right sidebar.
