Well, typically an update should take less than a second. Something might be interfering or causing a process to hang.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

1 second is stretching it a bit. If I ran a clean install of WordPress and a standard theme, then the updating would be faster. But, how many folks are running that scenario with WordPress? Not many I bet.

I have run a variety of WordPress installations with a variety of plugins and themes on a variety of hosting providers over the past 10 years, and I have never had an update take more than 2 whole seconds on the worst site.

So, back to actually fixing this, how did those troubleshooting steps go for you?

I haven’t went through that process yet. I’m sorry, but I’m not buying what you are selling. 2 seconds on localhost, sure. Ever hosted with Hostgator?

This is just basic troubleshooting.

Yes, I have worked on a number of sites at Hostgator and other brands under their hosting parent company, Endurance International Group.

The post/page update times never exceeded 2 seconds. (and really, update times on localhost should be well below 1 second)

I thought you came here for support, which is why I started with basic troubleshooting; basic troubleshooting which should take probably 15 minute at most, yet this thread has been here with no action on your part for over a day.

I marked this as resolved. I know how to troubleshoot the issue. My original post was regarding a plugin which would give the end user a visual that that the page was being updated.
