I have a pretty big issue here and I need to figure is now ASAP. I see Google has indexed a few of my home pages (duplicated content, SEO destroyer). Here is the issue. None of these pages are in my dashboard. I cant edit or delete them, why?
//site/page/4/ ——–I NEVER CREATED THIS, NOT IN DASHBOARD
//site/page/20/ ——–I NEVER CREATED THIS, NOT IN DASHBOARD

The pages above are just a few and Google has indexed them. Yes im going to create a 301 after I find the culprit. There are also a ton of post pages I never created like-

    site/category/types-of-floors/twitter.com/upholstery-cleaning-4
    301created

    site/tag/deodorize-carpet-cleaning/facebook.com/tile-and-grout-cleaning
    301 created

Someone please help. Yes Im sure its a plug in or theme issue, but I dont know how Im able to test this issue.

  • That’s pretty standard WordPress. Nothing to do with themes or plugins.

The pages that are numbers are simply WordPress using the page ID for the link instead of the “pretty” permalink for it.

The ones for ‘category’ and ‘tag’ are exactly that. They are archive pages for post categories and tags. That’s what’s supposed to be there.

One thing that would be good for your situation is to install a proper SEO plugin, as that will make sure that issues like you’re seeing don’t happen, at least for he page IDs. You should also be able to set visibility for categories and tags as well, so it’s definately something that i’d recommend in your case.

So it’s common practice for WordPress to create //site/page/4/ and it litterly a clone of my homepage and it’s indexed by Google. (Would that be considered duplicated content on the same domain?) BUT it’s no where to be found on WP dashboard?? What SEO plugin would you recommend? I hear good things of Yost. Do you think that’s my best bet for being free?

It’s normal. It may not be “desired” but it’s normal, and does depend a lot on your sties XML sitemap to display the correct pages/posts/etc.

Yoast is probably the best known plugin for SEO, and will do what you want it to.

Awesome, thank you so much for your expertise. Do you know if Yost will fast past post/pages or just future ones? Is there a specific setting I need to activate or will it be ready to go out of the box?

It should do that from the start, but as always it’s best if you go through the configuration of it so you can fine-tune it to how you want it to work.

Ok Im kind of freaking out right now. Ultimate SEO was installed on my site before. I totally deactivated that and installed Yost SEO yoast automatically created a new site map and made me update all my title and meda tags. I submitted the brand new sitemap to Google and this morning I woke up and my homepage is not index by Google anymore. Is this common? Will it come back? Should I change it back to the way it was?
