Pages appearing in RSS feed – unwanted

  • Hi all,

    I’ve been searching through the forums for a solution to this one, but for the most part I’m finding people asking how to include pages in their RSS feed.

    The impression I’ve gotten is that this should not happen by default.

    Yesterday I updated a few of the static pages in our site and this morning was annoyed to see that those page updates had been sent out to our RSS subscribers.

    Our site is located at: https://www.pixelapes.com and our feed is located at: https://www.pixelapes.com/feed/

    which thanks to the feedburner plugin is automatically re-routed to https://feeds.feedburner.com/Pixelapes

    If you look at our feed you’ll see that the last 3 items are “Privacy Policy”, “About Us” and “Home”. I made minor changes to these pages as we’ve recently relocated our office and I really wasn’t expecting that to go out in our RSS feed.

    I had already installed the FeedControl plugin in an attempt to rectify this behaviour (specifying that pages should not be included in my main feed), but this doesn’t seem to have made a difference. NB. Pages going out in the RSS feed was happening before I installed the FeedControl Plugin as well.

    Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be happening and how I might rectify this?

    Oh, by the way I have more edits planned for our About Us page and am planning to create a few more static pages on the site, so I’d really like to work this problem out as soon as possible.

    For your information, the plug-ins that I have installed are as follows:

    Well, I needed to edit another page on my blog today, so as I don’t know what is causing this behaviour I decided to test out the FeedControl plugin by adding the ID of the page I was about to edit to my exclude list.

    This worked. So I have a workaround for the time being, although it’s not perfect.

    Obviously this means that if I’m creating any static pages that I’ll need to check their ID before publishing and add this ID to my exclusion list.

    I still don’t understand why pages are being published though, I really thought they were meant to be left out of the RSS feed by default. Any suggestions?

    I also use feedburner but I do NOT use the feedsmith whatever plugin… and I never have my edited/modified Pages in my feeds. I can’t think of anything else.

    This is only an educated guess, but try disabling the Search Everything plugin. See if your feed shows different content then. You may need to disable the feedburner redirection temporarily to see the difference in the actual feed (instead of what feedburner is picking up). Feedburner caches feed content for a while.

    I just had this problem. It was the “Page Category Plus” plugin. I’m on 2.3.2. All my pages went out on my feed. Rather embarrassing, actually.

    I recommend turning off all the plugins, confirming that pages no longer display in your feed, then turning the plugins on one by one.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll check those options out on a “non-critical” blog I have going and see what happens.

    Hopefully it’s just the Search Everything plugin.. in which case I’ll let them know there’s a problem.

    Is there a solution for this? Using Page Category Plus here, is there an alternative plugin or another plugin I could use that would solve it?

    Solution in the case of Page Category Plus:

    In the pcp_include_pages function of pcp-support.php, line 68:

    remove the is_feed() check, so just if((is_category()))
