• Today a site that I am working on went down. The pages got moved to the trash and a couple of my media uploads got deleted and I received a 404 error. I was able to restore the pages and get the site back up however, my theme is messed up and the images from media are gone. The site is out of date as well as the themes and plugins. I was upload pdf’s thru the media when it happened. What caused this? How many pdf’s can you upload thru the media? I need to upload around 1200 pdf’s. Can wordpress handle this? Was this caused by a plugin or from the site being out of date? The site is currently running on 4.0. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

  • What caused this?

Impossible to say with some indepth examination of the site but it is possible that your site’s database has been damaged. When did you last repair its tables? And why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked – if it hasn’t been hacked already? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

    Can wordpress handle this?

WordPress can but it’s debatable as to whether your server could – especially if you are hosted on a shared server.

Thanks esmi, I did not create the site someone else did and they never maintained it. When I did try to upgrade the site it asked for FTP credentials which they don’t have and as far as I can tell not installed. How do I get around this?

Ftp isn’t something that you install. It’s available on all web-hosting servers. Try asking your hosts for the site’s FTP connection details.

I did and it is not installed on our server. Can I install it? We our using our own server for this site.

If you don’t have FTP, how are you adding files to the server?
