• I’m using WP 4.1.1. Cohen theme. Website: https://www.phlebotomytraining411.com

When I set this page up the day before yesterday, and yesterday, whenever I would add a page, it would show up in the main menu / header at the top of the page.

Today, I can’t get anything *new* to show up in the menu. No matter what I do.

I’ve scoured the internet looking for answers. I’ve tried everything that I found that WP would allow me to do.

    Nothing is working.

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,
Have you tried to set the menu on the Appearance > Menu ?

    Thank you for your response.

I’m not sure if I’m doing it right, but I’ve tinkered with the Appearance > Menu a bunch and I’m not getting anywhere.

Any other ideas or a step by step to get through the Appearance > Menu just in case I’m doing something wrong?

    Thanks again,

    WPyogi:

Thanks for the response. With the first link, here’s what I’ve done:

I have defined a menu and added items to the menu. I can get that done.

Skipping to “Adding Menus to the Site”, I cannot do anything with “Theme Locations”. I see that it says that you can’t do anything with that if your theme won’t allow custom menus. However, when I selected this theme, the very first thing I did was to create several pages, and they all showed up in the menu at the top of the theme.

At some point during my tinkering, I lost my ability to add a page and it show up in the top menu. I’ve spent HOURS trying to figure out why I lost that functionality.

I have tried adding the Custom Menu widget but still nothing.

I am sure this is something easy I’m missing but wtf it’s insane that something seemingly so simple is taking me hours and hours and still…nothing.

You’ll really need to check with the developer of the theme – might be something different in that theme and we have no way to help with commercial themes on these forums.

I used to be able to embed HTML code in a blog post to show a video or advertise a book, but now the image does not show up, only the HTML in raw form. Any advice would be most helpful. Thank you.

What is so disturbing is that I had the ability to add pages and delete pages and add them again and they showed up in the menu just fine. Something happened that changed that, and I’ve tried everything to discover what that may be.

I’ve changed themes offered with my WordPress through SiteGround and when I change themes, the same thing – no ability to add to the top menu.

I’m trying to teach myself WP with the Lynda tutorials but this is very disheartening, and makes me wonder if I want to mess around with learning this when something seemingly so simple wastes so much of my time.

@vibrantlifer – your question is totally unrelated to this thread- please start your own:

When you do not have any custom menu set up, all of the pages, by default, show up in the menu. Once you set up a custom menu, you have to first select the location, and then click on the other tab and set up which pages (and other things) you want to include in that menu.

Is that what you are doing?

I certainly think that is what I’m doing.

Isn’t there a way to delete a custom menu and go back to the default? I’d love to just be able to do that.

Under “Menu Settings”, it says ” Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu”

I click that box. Nothing. I uncheck that box. Nothing.

Theme Locations exists under that. I can’t do anything with that. Nothing is clickable.

I’ve tried to add the custom menu in the Appearance > Widgets – nothing. I’ve put it in every widget location available and get. nothing.

Okay, so sounds like something else may be going on. Try deactivating ALL plugins and switching to Twenty Fifteen theme – to see if any are causing this problem.

    Done. Check it out.

Good, so you DO have pages published? Can you link to a published page? You can get there by going to the page and clicking “View Page”

Here is a published page that won’t show up:
