Google has updated the Pagespeed insights API that this plugin uses from v2 > v4.

The biggest change that comes with this update is how the pagespeed score is calculated, the underlying rules/recommendations seem to be the same.

The Google API library that this plugin uses to communicate with the API has not yet been updated to support the new version. I will be looking in the future to rewrite this plugin to not rely on the API and instead handle the retrieval and formatting of the pagespeed reports with my own functions.

In the meantime I wanted to post this message here for anyone seeing a mis-match between the pagespeed score reported by this plugin, and pagespeed scores found on the Google hosted pagespeed insights checker.

For me the new API gave drastically different results. My page went from 95 to 27 ??
I updated it now, and now I am back to 98 ??
So – please change the API as soon as possible, because the new API seems to be the one relevant for Google. Thank you for your awesome work. I have also started to contribute to the translation into German ??

    Hey @dirkliesenfeld,

Since I made this post Google has actually updated their API again!.

It is high on my list of things to do to get this plugin updated to support the newest pagespeed API, especially with the changes in v5 which are pretty different than earlier versions.

It is a tough time right now with the holidays, updates to some of my other plugins, and client work; but I am going to get to this as soon as I can.

    Thanks,

    Matt Keys

Awesome. Thank you so much. I Just finished the translation into German.

I don’t want to pester you ?? But nevertheless the question: do you already know about when you will get to integrate the new API? I would like to optimize my site, so that it works with the new API and your tool would be invaluable for that.

It is something that I’ve been working on for a week or so now, but I do not have an ETA for when it will be ready for testing. The new API version is very different than the one currently in use by the plugin, so it is not going to be an easy upgrade.

Let me know if you are interested in being a beta tester, and I can let you know when it is ready.

    Yes, I would like to Beta-Test ??
