• …the translations are hilariously bad.

I should have guessed from the questionable English on the sales page, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Supposedly, it should at least be on the same level as google translate. Well.. far from it. The English to German translation results in almost complete gibberish that is only somewhat comprehensible if you have the original text in mind.

Google translate meanwhile only made some minor errors, the result being something clearly not from Goethe’s feather, but comprehensible.

I can only speculate the translations into other languages would be similarly unsatisfactory.

This after an unnecessarily bothersome install procedure and many, many failed save attempts before the options took.

Luckily, I backed up my site beforehand, so the “uninstall” was painless.

    Recommended for comedic value only.

    Hi,

Sorry that you have had a bad experience with GTranslate.

GTranslate free version uses automatic machine translations based on statistical algorithm, while the paid version uses the neural machine translation which is almost human level (translate.google.com uses the neural algorithm).

I guess you have not configured the paid features properly that is why you have seen the non-quality translations.

Configuring the paid version is very easy, for sub-directory URL structure you just need to turn on the checkbox for it in GTranslate settings page and for sub-domain you will need to add DNS records also. If you have any issues or need help free setup is available through our Live Chat, you just need to pass the access info.

If you have any issues we can help you to fix the issues through our Live Chat.

    Thanks!

I agree that the configuration is easy. When I called it unnecessarily bothersome that is because other plugins do these things automatically, without a need to edit the htaccess file yourself for example.

And no, I did not do it incorrectly, as evidenced by the subfolder structure working for the translated posts.

Now that you mention it, the URL translation failed to work.

“Difficult to get to work” because the chosen options refused to save in the beginning until suddenly they did.

Also, the plugin continues to act like you’re a free user after paying, very pesky ads and all.

I did actually contact your support about this, but they refused to answer, or even acknowledge my questions, but instead seemed very keen for me to hand over my login details so they could do the install for me.

    Hi,

Thanks for the clarification. Let me explain it further.

When your .htaccess file is writable, the rewrite rules are being added automatically. Otherwise you are asked to add them by connecting via FTP or your hosting panel.

If your plan includes the URL translation feature, I’m sure it will work, may be your plan missed URL translation feature?

I guess you have a caching plugin on your website which may prevent the changes to appear instantly, you need to clear the cache, so the changes can appear.

If you have seen that it still acts as a free plugin, then the bad quality is explained, because when you are on a translated url like domain.com/es and you still have the free language selector ( not configured properly or some caching reason ), then the translation quality will be even worse, since we translate the website into spanish, then the free version tries to translate it from the source language to spanish language again which can cause a mess ( double translation ).

We provide full support including technical to GTranslate users and sometimes we need to get into the customer website to configure GTranslate correctly. It is common. From what you have posted, it is evident that GTranslate wasn’t configured properly.

If you do not wish to provide any access details may be you can do a Screenshare session, so we can configure it for you under your revision? Please contact our live chat and ask for Edvard (me) and I can help you to configure it properly.

    Thanks!
