Parallel Installation

  • Hi everyone, i’m installing WP as a CMS for a friend. She has a existing site and this installtion is to run on the same server with the same domain.

    What is the best way to install wordpress in parallel and then switch from the old site to the wordpress site with minimum fuss?

    I currently have wordpress installed in the root folder and the dashboard works ok bu the permalinks don’t. I was hoping to build in parallel the rename the old index.html file thereby enabling the index.php from wordpress to take the lead.

    What is the best option?

    Another thought is it easier to build in subdirectory and then shift when we are ready to switch sites. if so how do you make the switch?
