If I have parent categories with subcategories (but the parent categories are just for organization of the site, with a bad and ugly name), should I use NoIndex to the parent categories? if I do, will the subcategories be afected?

    thanks

    Hi @colomet,

I think you’re asking about duplicated content issues. The effects are summarized here:
    https://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content

In my experience, content archives rarely rank well. So, I think you should focus on segregation, increasing the chance for exposure for each canon.

In other words: I’d recommend setting the parent categories to use “noindex”.

Pages marked for using noindex, which aren’t excluded in the robots.txt endpoint, are still crawled and links within are still followed (unless nofollow is also used); so, this won’t affect internal linking.
If your site’s posts list links to their assigned categories, then they’ll be well found, too.

In other words: Generally, neither the subcategories nor their contained posts will be affected.

Ultimately, you’ll have to see what works the best via testing.

    Cheers ??
