• How would I go about having a single category page in a theme that will be used for all children of a category as well as the parent.

    I was hoping that I would not have to have a category page for each category that is a child. So lets say that I have a parent category (pCat) and three children (cCat1, cCat2, cCat3). I was wondering if there is a way to have a single pCat.php page that would be used to render all of them?

    This is how WordPress should work by default. Under the pCat query, all cCats should display. If they do not, then either a plugin or something in the category template is overriding things.
