    Hi,

I am confused on how can I add up parent – child taxonomies. I have created two taxonomies like “Cities” and “Localities”. I have written down 4 different cities. Now I want to add up few localities under cities, by selecting them as “Parent Taxonomy”. But when I try to create “Localities Taxonomy”, I am not able to select the newly created “cities” from the parent taxonomy drop box. Can you please help on how can I do the same.

    Thank you.

One thing to keep in mind is that when you set taxonomies to hierarchical, it’s not each other that can be made parent/children of. It’s the terms within the taxonomy that can get that relation, but still not between the taxonomies.

If you had a taxonomy of “genre” and then a term of “rock”, that term could have a child of “classic”, and then “alternative”. If you had a different taxonomy of “instruments”, you could have a term of “guitar” and then kids of “acoustic” and “electric”, but you wouldn’t be able to make “acoustic” be a child of “rock” and whatnot.

Using your examples specifically, I’d probably put “locality” as the higher position in hierarchy as i think cities could be considered a locality.
