I’m sure this is probably something that I have done but when I try to install the Expanding Archives widget it tells me that it would not activate due to a fatal error and gives me this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/70/8898470/html/wp-content/plugins/expanding-archives/inc/widget-expanding-archives.php on line 145

I took a look at it to see if I could see what it was referencing but I don’t dare mess with code. Can you tell me what it is I’ve done?

    Thanks!

That means your host is running a PHP version LESS than 5.3, because PHP 5.3 is required to run the piece of code that’s on that line.

To put that in perspective, 5.3 (the one you don’t have yet) became an “unsupported branch” in August 2014. See: Unsupported Branches But you’re probably running more like 5.2, which became unsupported in January 2011!!

You’ll need to talk to your host about upgrading to a newer version (it’s up to 5.6 now).

Thanks so much! I went to my host and they said that there default was 5.3 but my site was still set to 5. It was a quick fix and then the plugin worked.
