    Wordpress 5.4.2 und Divi Theme,

I did a backup from the side running WP 5.4.2 with Divi Theme (also the newes Version). When restore the backup on Localhost or on a alfahosting php7.3 server (subfolder) I get Parse error on line 5925 in formatting.php

If I comment out that line or the hole function _wp_emoji, the page loads but css is messed up
Any Ideas what could be the Problem. I startet with the TwentyTwentyTheme but end up With Divi. Twentytweny I deleted. Could this be the problem?
Or any other thougt or ideas what I can do?
    Thanks for help.
    Best regards Simone

If you switched to twentytwenty theme, does this error disappear?

Was difficult to change to TwentyTwenty… because the Dashboard is a mess.
Css completely broken after deleting the function. After changeing to twentytwenty I wrote back the function and…

The Parse error is gone!, but the Backend css is still completely broken.

If you use a commercial theme need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations.

Divi by Elegent theme forum: https://www.elegantthemes.com/forum/

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

Just noticed, that the Parse error still comes up, also with TwentyTwenty – I wrote the function in the wrong document. So its not Divi related.
Following text is comming: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘Н?’ (T_STRING), expecting ‘)’ in E:\xampp\htdocs\0711golfcrew\wp-includes\formatting.php on line 5925
There must be a bug in the formatting.php

What exactly you did at the site before this error happened?

For example, any updating, installing plugins/theme, modification, etc.?

No idea, when it happens, because the side itself seem to be fine. I just have problems when I try to reload a backup from the side. So I am worry, when I need the backup that I am not able to use it. Never had this Problem bevor.
I am used to load the backup in an subfolder from the domain or on localhost. Both ist not possible because of this Parse Error.

To rule out a plugin conflict, try deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).

No, actually no plugins at all. I had 2 plugins installt.
Tablepress and the-event-calendar. With the-event-calender there was once an isue, so I had to go back to an older Plugin version. But right now there is no plugin left. I wanted to install them after backup, but because the backup didn′t work I didn′t installed them jet.

You may want to discuss this backup issue with your hosting provider. They may shed some light, after all they control the server your site is on.

I will do this. Sorry for borther you.
My last attempt was, I copied a formatting.php from a fresh wordpress download.
After that, the Table wp_comments broke and was corrupt. I tried to repair the table, but didn′t work, than i emptyed the table. Now there is no error, but still a broken dashbord with no css…. arggg
    Any thoughts, would be great.
    Thanks.

Yesterday, maximumred had the same problem. I cannot find his post (I just got an WordPress-email). How can I contact him?

    (@simoneschroetter)

No, still no solution. Hosting send me to WordPress and other way round.
If you have any thoughts, i would be happy.

@lrzcologne, do you have also the Kombination WordPress and Twenty-Twenty Theme?

    Thread Starter simoneschroetter

    (@simoneschroetter)

    problem solved!
It was FileZilla. Very strange because it was the same problem on two complety differnet sites. There must be some strange code in the WP 5.4.2 which FileZille has a problem. It was always and only with this combination (FileZille and WP 5.4.2).
However I used WinSCP now and everything works fine.
