I hope someone can help me. I logged onto my wordpress page at a hostel in China while traveling and when I got home I discovered my blog cannot be accessed. Every time I try to log in or just look at the blog I get a blank page that says:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ‘,’ or ‘;’ in /home/jonacro3/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 357

I went to the folder in question and then to the 357th line but it looks ok and I can’t find any noticeable issue. Plus I never edited it before so I don’t see why the problem is coming up now. Could I just delete the file in question? Would that ruin everything? What should I be looking for exactly?

Please help me. (By the way, I think this is the right version of WP, I honestly forget. I got it in spring 2006, so whatever was around then is what I have.)

uh no. why would you even begin to think that that is even an option?

I know I know. But the problem is so vexing and I just want it to be gone. Sorry, if it wasn’t clear before but I’ve never had to edit these files before – I’m really out of my league here.

whooami: can you help me at all??

without knowing exactly what version youre running, not really. I cant even look at the file myself, since I dont know what version to download.. ??

the “obvious” thing to do, is for you to determine the version you are using, then to go download the zip, then to extract the contents, find the file, wp-includes/wp-db.php, and upload it, replacing the one on your server.

Thats not necessarily the fix, but thats where I would start. Then you’ll also be able to tell us exactly what version youre running.

Heck, your site may even be hacked.

In my mind you are a savior!!!

The problem is fixed. I have version 2.0.11. I did exactly what you told me. No doubt it is about time I upgrade, at the moment I think I’ll just lick my wounds.

Now that everything is fixed I’m wondering what happened. The ‘violated’ file I had was filled with a bunch of crap. Here is a short example:

https://www.shopholyokenews.com/shop/routines/_images/marine-pile-driving-winch/science-fair-project-cocolate.html title=science fair project cocolate rel=dofollow><h2>science fair project cocolate</h2> century savid <h2>savid</h2> page gunsight tx cemetery <h2>gunsight tx cemetery</h2> left uniflame fire pit <h2>uniflame fire pit</h2> main hans hollein

You think someone would actually take the time to insert that in my blog? Weird. I must be more careful when logging in outside my home.

    Again, thank you whooami.

hmm, yah that looks like a compromised file.

2.0.11 is touted as being secure — Ive come to find out that’s no so much the truth. There’s a whole lotta stuff that needs to be changed to make it secure, so yes, its time you upgraded.

    youre welcome though ??
