How can I add one of these to my site, also what is it proper term? My website is thelonetree.org and I would like to add something like “server.thelonetree.org”, and I have no idea what steps are needed to do this or how to do it. I use W.P. version 3.9 and my goal is to have a VPN connection. In addition, if I do get this setup, is there a specific term/server/page I have to use for a VPN connection? (Thanks for the help and anything could help me! )

  • That’s not a VPN, at least not in the context that you’re referring to it as. The correct term for that is a subdomain. You don’t need to have a sub-domain to have a VPN, and you don’t need a VPN to have a subdomain. The two are completely different things.

What exactly do you want to do here, and what do you conisder a VPN to be?

First, I want to get a sub-domain. How can I set this up?

I can do the VPN later, however I would like to know how to get a sub-domain and have it working. Also, what is the difference between a page link (domain.com/page) and a sub-domain. Does a sub-domain connect to the same hosting server however it is like another website?

To get a subdomain set up you need to register it either with your domain name service if they have that option available, or you need to set it you using the DNS system of your hosting server. You’ll need to ask the company that you’re working through about doing this is way outside the scope of these forums.

If you want to use that subdomain for a VPN, then you’ll need to read up on how ot do that, as that is even further outside of these forums and has got nothing at all to do with WordPress. ??

    If I use hostgator, can i easily select a sub-doamin? What is a sub-domain?

If you don’t know what a subdomain is then you will never get what you want set up. As I said before, you need to ask your hosting or domain company about this as it has nothing to do with WordPress and is outside the scope of these forums.

Sorry, but if you can’t do some actual work for yourself and do some very basic searching to find your answers (Hostgator has all of this info in thier support area if you look), or follow what I said before then it’s pretty much impossible to help you.

Well excuse me for my lack of knowledge. The forums are supposed to help others so we can all become successful. If you do not know what it is, a simple redirect to wikipedia would have been nice. There is no reason to be rude, you need only be positive, kind, and respectful of others.

    — Heading to hostgator for solution; Also will be referring to YouTube etc. Contact me if you would like some more details on me finding the solution. ?? —

I’m not trying to be rude, but you have ignored what I’ve been trying to tell you.

These forums are for WordPress problems. As I stated before your questions are not related to WordPress in any way so are best answered somewhere else that can give you better results. You have also been disrespectful by ignoring my ansswers, so please do not try and place all of the blame on me here. ??

I’m glad that you are finally taking my advice. I’m sure that you will get better results from what I told you to do right back at the start.

If you refer to the 6th post I made I simply wanted to know what a sub-doamin meant. However, instead of replying in a kind fashion, you were incapable of such action and chose to be rude. I was simp lying calling you on that as you can see above. Also, I thank you for the help you gave me above past your rudeness.
