• Hi

For reasons no need to discuss, I abandoned my old WP site, moved my domain name to another site and started a new WP site.

I recently discovered I still have access to my old files, how can I move those old files (which ones do I need, everything in WP-Content) or

Can they be incorporated into the new site or should I just use the old files, not much in the new site.

Does the theme etc come with WP-Content ?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

    Whit

wp-content folder does not contain posts.
wp-content folder contains uploads, plugins and theme
posts are stored in the database in the posts table.
there is a database and files which make up your website.
do you have access to the database from your old WP site?

if you are planning to use some or all of old WP site content you might need several related tables from the database and the some things from the wp-content folder

make a complete backup copy of old WP site and new wp site before making any changes
consider testing changes in a staging site or local development environment before adding directly to your new WP site.

ask your webhosting vendor if they have a staging site included in your webhosting plan.

    Thank you.

    1. Yes I have access to the database
    2. Could I create a “staging site” locally

    Thanks

Using a staging site is a great way to try out the partial import of the database and upload of relevant files without any impact to the live/production site.
