• I don’t know if these are theme problems or WordPress problems but here goes.

    1. Is my site supposed to email me when someone signs up? It is not doing that.

    2. My friend signed up a few days ago and was told during the process that he would be sent an email with a password. This is not happening.

Is it a theme problem of WordPress problem or is it in my settings?

Appreciate any help I can get!!!!

  • You are using an outdated theme.

This theme hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Have you tried with all plugins disabled and using twenty thirteen?

Thanks for your response, kmessinger! No, I haven’t tried twenty thirteen, mainly because I’m not real fond of how it looks. I choose Distinction because of the way it looked, but only AFTER searching for a theme that fit the theme of the website.

Why disable all plugins and why twenty thirteen? I’m new to WP so I hope my questions don’t have TOO obvious answer. ??

That is standard debugging. You change the theme temporally to rule out theme problems.

Ok, so I should change to a newer theme and see if that works? I’ll do that and let you know, so don’t close this one out just yet. Thanks!

Ok, installed Flatty theme and it still does not send password or notify me of new subscriber. The only plugin I’m using is Follow Me Box but the problem existed before I installed that plug.

I’ve tried disabling the only plugin I’m using and tried twenty thirteen even though I don’t like the looks. Problem still exists. I called my host and they say it’s not a problem with anything they are doing.

Is there a way to just disable the whole thing and let anybody comment without having to sign in?

Find a theme you like that is up-to-date and use it.

Sure, you can set it for anybody to comment. There are a few options like having to have one approved and then you can comment freely.

Have you checked with your host? They can control email with server settings.

I checked with my host again and the guy said my email services was turned off. He said it should be working after about 5:30 EST. I deleted your test registrations so if you could try again I would be most appreciative!

Great! I will try it in an hour or so.

I see where you subscribed but still did not get an email notification. Did you receive your password email?

No I did not. I will try again latter.

Ok, once again I called my host support and was told that the problem is probably in the login.php file and could also be in the signup.php file. Is that a possibility and if so, how do I edit a php file and what do I look for?

. So they say this and now it is a file problem. Who is your host?

You don’t edit core files. You can delete those and replace with new copies from 3.8

    Ask for server logs.

My host is IX-Webhosting. The email services are turned on so the problem must be elsewhere. The guy I talked to said that there was an option that was no longer there when he updated to v3.8. I don’t remember what he was referring to, though.

This is ridiculous. I’m going to have to find another blog software if this isn’t working soon.

    FRUSTRATING…
