• Hi I hope someone can help.
1: I noticed this week that most of the images are suddenly missing from both my blog posts AND my library. When I say suddenly though, I dont know when this happened. I rarely check in, many once every two weeks.

2: I did update everything inc site and plugins – no improvement – once I managed to login (that was difficult because the autofill wasn’t working and the pw area was greyed out for a while.

3: Now I can’t login because the pw field greyed out.

    4: ARGHHH!!!

Any tips? (make them easy to understand I’m a psychologist not a tech savvy mac whisperer)

    Sally

  • Hi Sally – you are running your version of WordPress in the cloud – these support forums for WordPress instances that run onPrem.

You can get support here however:
    https://wordpress.com/forums/

If you can’t login, you can use the Forgot Password function:
    https://sallyoreilly.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

You’re images aren’t working bc they are failing from the server.
    See here:

Hi and thanks so much for responding.

OK so firstly, I don’t know what this means: “you are running your version of WordPress in the cloud – these support forums for WordPress instances that run onPrem.”

I”m very confused. I thought I had a www.ads-software.com site. Somehow though I got into it via wordpress.com even because my pw was greyed out in the .org and I couldn’t get in. My site is self hosted so I don’t get it.

I haven’t forgotten the pw, I just can’t enter it. But I guess you’re saying I should reset it see what happens?

    Secondly:
OK so SOME images are failing from the server (225 of thjem apparently) – what does that mean? Are they lost forever or can they be retrieved?

Thanks again so much I feel very much at sea here! And not in a nice holiday relax-y way…

Hmmmm …….. not really sure what is going on.
Your site is being hosted here?
    https://www.myhost.ie
    Is that right?

I guess I would ask your host why the images from here:
    https://i2.wp.com/
    and here:
    https://i1.wp.com/
    are failing.

Did your site used to be on wordpress.com?

Images from i1 seem to be okay:

Honestly I don’t know. A friend takes care of that for me but he’s not accessible right now. But it’s likely yes.

I don’t think my site was on wordpress.com no? Unless it was there initially, and then moved to .org? It’s weird isn’t it?

What does i1 and i2 mean?

    Thanks again!

What does i1 and i2 mean?

afaik, these are the clould servers provided by wordpress.com

OK, myhost.ie says it’s not their fault. I am still no closer to a solution. The guy who organises the hosting for me wonders if it’s Jetpack’s fault? But I’ve been told all 500+ images are gone forever.
I wrote a blog post in June and that was definitely working. Now all the related images – apart from one I replaced a few days agao are gone from that and most other blog posts going back years – yeeeeears of work. Inc facebook and twitter cards. Everything is just gone!

SO frustrating – and upsetting. Sure;y there’s a way to retrieve them?

Any suggestions or interventions greatly appreciated.

Are you able to login here:
    https://billing.myhost.ie/clientarea.php

If you can login here, you can use the Control Panel to launch your File Manager and delete Jetpack from /wp-content/plugins
While I’m not a fan of Jetpack, I doubt this is the issue.

The likelyhood of you images ‘being gone forever’ is very low.

If you are hosted on this site, they have backups:
    https://billing.myhost.ie/index.php/knowledgebase/144/Do-you-backup-my-website.html
But a backup is only as useful as your last good backup.

Thanks for coming back. NO I can’t – but the guy who takes of it for me can I assume. Can I check what you mean by your last sentence? Do you mean my own back up? I don’t think I’ve ever backed up my site!!

My guy just back to me and said “It’s not Myhost. It has to be down to a something that has happened in wordpress. But even if someone could unravel it there isn’t any files to replace the missing ones.” and ” I just got a mail from myhost regarding restoring from an old backup but they don’t have any from that far back”

So I am being told that everything is gone forever. And that ti’s wordpress’s fault basically. Do you think there’s anything I can do?

My point is that your host backs up your site:
    https://billing.myhost.ie/index.php/knowledgebase/144/Do-you-backup-my-website.html

You need to start focusing on logging into your host.
if this is your site, why don’t you have access to the domain on your host here?
    https://billing.myhost.ie/clientarea.php

Give them a call, and tell them this is your domain and you need to login:
    https://www.myhost.ie/contact/

I can try to talk to them. But they’ve told my guy they don’t have a back up going back far enough so looks like there’s nothing I can do. And I still don’t know why they disappeared in the first place. Any ideas? Thank you again.
