• Hello,
I uploaded a WordPress site design. Configured it in the admin panel, and got everything working. A day later I try to log in to finish the project, but my password is not accepted. I try again and again making absolutely certain that the password is correct but still it won’t work.
I looked on some forums and followed instructions from easy solutions such as deleting the cache to manually changing the password in my PhpAdmin. Still it doesn’t work! I tried the ‘Lost Your Password’ option, but when I get the email and click on the link there is a red error message, “Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid”
Can somebody help me out please, because is becoming very frustrating now!

    N. S.

  • Does your WordPress blog contain any post or something if not then try reinstalling WordPress [link removed]

    Thanks for the reply rockt204,

At the moment there is no post or page, or much of anything. I was going to start adding the content today when this occured.

I can reinstall WordPress and that may work, but I’m more than curious to know what this is about, as it seems to be a problem experienced by many people. I don’t want a situation where I reinstall WordPress and a theme and then have to go through all this again.

But, if I don’t get many replies to this question I may just have to do that and hope for the best!

    Hi Kategreene,

Quick question. Were your sites hacked into at all recently? Because someone told me there was a vulnerability with PhpMyAdmin and that may have allowed aceess to the database where stuff was changed. Even though things might be back to normal, a script may have been left on the server which changes the password.
If you site(s) weren’t hacked then at least I know this can’t be the problem and it can be eliminated.

    Cheers,

    Hi there,

My site was not hacked. Hope this helps you!

    It does yes, thanks Kate,
So that can be eliminated. Have you checked on the forums? Have you spoken at all to your hosting provider? If so, what have they said?

Mine’s are looking into it at this moment but have said that’s it’s an unusual problem and they have no immediate answers.

Did you view your server logs for anything strange? If you are in the process of developing/creating a new site, you should always restrict access to it.

    If you’ve done everything here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password

Then you should try a backup. Maybe your host has a backup?

If no backup and if you’ve tried everything else, you may want to try and disable your current theme and plugins my reading this:

    Thanks MickeyRoush,

I’ve tried most of the solutions mentioned in your link EXCEPT:
“Using the Emergency Password Reset Script”

I am now desperate enough to try this but unfortunately my hosting company are looking into the problem and have asked me not to make any changes to anything until they’ve investigated this issue – which could be a few hours. So… I will try this emergency script later.

If the above works, I would be interested to know how this could have happened, so I can fix it, as I wouldn’t want it to happen again.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Kate,

What version of WordPress are you using?

I’ve been told by my hosting provider that a possible problem is that the theme I am using is incompatible with the version of WP I’m using, which is 3.3.1

So, I am now going to reinstall using an earlier version of WP with the same theme and see what happens.
