• I run a marketing website, in which I design websites as well. I set up a new wordpress blog (ex. mywebsite.com/preview) to show clients a preview of their site. I’ve blocked it from search engines, but would like to password protect that entire portion of the site.

By doing this, I’ll be able to give one client a password which shows a preview of their site….then once that is completed give the next client a new password to the preview site (thus preventing the old client from seeing the preview, etc.).

Is there any way to do this? Thanks so much for any help!

  • There are lots of different ways to password protect a website. You can use an .htaccess file, a php script or something more elaborate. If your web hosting company gives you access to cPanel there is an option in there that will password protect a directory for you. If not check out this article on using .htaccess to protect your site:

    https://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml

you can also search google.com or a php scripts library for password protection scripts.

    Hope that helps.
