• I have a family blog and would like to be able to have all my blog posts on a password protected page. therefore I made the front page static with a welcome message and links to the other pages. Two of the other pages have passwords. One of them is where the blog posts show up, and there the page password functionality doesn’t work. IF it did work, it would be perfect. Is there some reason why it doesn’t work or is there anything I can do to make it work?!?!?!?!

  • Try the following steps:

    – In your dashboard area, go to Appearance->Customize. Expand the “Static Front Page” option on the resulting screen. Double-check the page that you have selected to be your “Post Page” here. Go back into your dashboard area, and navigate to your Post Page under Pages->All Pages. Make sure that you have password-protect the correct page.

    – Reset your permalinks. In your dashboard area go to Settings->Permalinks and click “Save.” See if this helps the problem.

    – Activate the default theme (2013) to rule out any theme-related issues.

    – Deactivate all plugins. If this resolves the problem, re-activate each plugin one by one until you find the problematic plugin.

Hi I tried all of that…but unfortunately it doesnt work.
If I under Appearance -> customize -> put the blog posts under a page called “test” (a passsword protected page) then the page is displayed with password. If I change that and now direct the blog posts to be under a page called “test2” (also a password protected page), then no password is needed for test2 to see the blog, but the page called “test” now needs the password.

Whatever page has the blog posts is not password protected.

Hi. Apologies, I’ve never tried to password protect the blog page of my site before, and therefore just assumed it would work the same way as other pages. A little research has shown me that this isn’t the case. Again, sorry for the initial wrong advice!

Here are some options for password protecting a blog page:

    – Password protect each individual blog post. I know this could seem a little tedious, but there are many plugins available that would allow you to more easily manage this process, such as page restrict.

    – You could password-protect your website via the .htacesss file. A tutorial on how to do this is here: https://css-tricks.com/easily-password-protect-a-website-or-subdirectory/.
