• I can password protect my pages, but not the photos. As long as someone has the url to the photo, it will show up. Are there any solutions for this yet?

  • No. Short answer: If you don’t want someone copying or obtaining your content, don’t publish it on the web.

haha – you been doing this too long. Can anyone else potentially help?

    Thanks

No, that IS the answer. You can “watermark” photos or there are various other methods of “hiding” them, but the bottom line is that there is no way to totally prevent people from downloading them.

If you want to learn more about various approaches to this issue, google around — it’s not a WP issue.

Twelve years as a professional web developer does tend to teach you a bit, yes. Why are you trying to protect images? Where are these images? How are they being added to your site?

Well I am using BuddyPress and I really don’t want to use their plugin for this (photo albums) at this time. And I was hoping that WP would eventually protect images in a future release, but if that is not the case then I will have to find a different solution. However, I really like the functionality that comes with the blog – all its missing is the protection feature.

Here is a javascript code that will disable the “right click-save picture as” function. However you can still get around this by downloading the entire web page, but it’s at least a step in the direction you want to go.

Right-click disable scripts cause major problems for some site visitors and can be broken in about 5 seconds flat.

Try researching some of the popular ecommerce plugins, you may find what your looking for… some of them are more geared around protecting uploaded files.

I found a promising plugin here:

    * ran into 2 issues while testing ( posted on the plugin page if you want to see them ).
