Password protect returns 404

As I stated, this is not a MemberPress issue. She could delete MemberPress completely, remove the front login page, and /wp-login.php would still 404. The issue must be caused something else.

MemberPress (with front login pages) is used on all the following sites, as you can see wp-login.php works fine on each.

Very good point. I am out of ideas. I guess just deactivating all plugins is the only thing left to try.

Actually I thought of one more possibility. Check with the web host to see if they are redirecting the login page. I have seen a fair amount of hosts now that are automatically doing some sort of brute login page protection thing at that server level. ie something has malfunctioned at the server level and no one can login to the site.

I have asked my host to look into the issue. Hopefully I’ll get a fix somehow!

I assume you cannot login to your site correct? Kind of got thrown off on this one due to the custom login page thing – tunnel vision. ??

@cartpauj – Just wanted to clear up something I said in this thread. We had a bad experience with a particular plugin that created a custom login page. I kind of made it sound like all plugins and themes that do something with custom login pages are a bad thing. Not what I meant at all. I have come across lots of membership plugins and themes that create awesome custom login pages and they work perfectly of course. So just wanted to clear that up. ??

Here’s the rest of the story.

I have a plugin from my host that does a number of things to optimize the WordPress installation.

One thing it does is change the login url from wp-admin to something random. Once I disabled that part of the plugin, the password protection works fine.

And, since I use very strong passwords, guess I won’t worry about using the standard login url.

have you done something like renamed your login page? Added something that hides your login page? done anything unusual with your login page?

Yup guess #2 was the right guess. ??
