Password protect virtual directory

We would like to password protect a WordPress created directory on the site. It’s not a multi-site install. We have a directory and it’s child pages that we would like to password protect. The directory isn’t on the server so we can’t use htaccess(or have no idea how to) and password protecting the parent page doesn’t stop access to the children pages.
