• In 1.2.2 is there any update on whether the password protected entries are working?

I’m in the same boat as alot of other people; where I’ll make an entry private, give it a password and when you type the password, it just refreshes and doesn’t show the entry.

    Any ideas?

  • My pleasure. Not often I can help with these things so I’m happy to if I can. ??

I’m having the same problem and enabling permalinks didn’t work for me. I tried to make a protected post but when I enter the password, the window just refreshes and nothing happens. When I click on the category that it’s under though, the post shows up–public, for everyone to see. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

    using wp1.5//firefox

    thanks!

to trace your own postings, at the top of the screen after you login it says ‘view your profile’. Click on that.

On the left is a list of posts you replied to, on the right is a list of those you started.

i don’t think i see what you mean. i can’t view the protected post on my website when i enter the password, but when i click on the category link (e.g. “private”) it shows when it’s not supposed to.

Sorry, I was very tired last night.

I noticed on my blogs that if I have logged in, the ‘edit this’ link becomes available, but I have it turned off for everyone else. So thats why you could be seeing the “private” category link after you log in. The blog is set to let you see it, but not others, so the cookie allows you to see it.

And nothing seems to work correctly if I don’t allow browser cookies.

I have had the same problem with password protected entries since WordPress version 1.2. I tried refreshing, clearing out the cache, but none of that works. The password protected entry still refuses to show me the content when I’m on the index page. However, if I click on the permalink for the entry, THEN it’ll shows up. Why’s that?

It would be nice to hear back from someone…

I’m having the same problem.. But oddly, it was working yesterday, but all of a sudden, it just refreshes now.

Someone above suggest activating permalinks. Even if it works, I do not wish to have permalinks.

Why isn’t anyone addressing this problem? It’s kinda major =/

The cookie for accessing password protect posts is set against the “Blog Address” URI as set in General Options. If you visit your site with a www prefix that is not present in the Blog Address, the cookie won’t be delivered and the protected post won’t be revealed. When you click on a permalink, you are being taken to the proper non-www address as set in the DB, thus the cookie is delivered and you can see the post. A ‘www’ prefix is almost always the problem here.

Also, if you are using IIS you could be tripping upon the IIS cookie header bug as discussed in bug 592.

AHH! It did the trick! Thanks Ryan ??

I’m using Windows XP, and I’ve upgraded to version 1.5.1 of WordPress now, yet the protected entries still won’t work (even when I tried adding ‘www’ to the Blog Address in the General Options). Not only that, but it’s strange because my photolog’s password protected entries have suddenly started working for the upgrade, yet there’s no difference to my regular weblog.

Never mind, I figured out what was wrong. It was because I was using PHP includes to link the blog onto my main site, and in all this time, I never changed the ‘blog URI’ so that it pointed to the index instead of the wordpress directory.

I have set up a new category with a private post. When I mark the post as private the category doesn’t even show. I need a category accessable by designated individuals that is not visible on the site or by rss.
