Password Protected login not working

  • Hello! Recently, we have been experiencing some issues with a Password Protected section of our website not functioning correctly. After typing the password and hitting Enter, the page seems to reload, with no indication of what happened. The password field is now blank, there is no message indicating an incorrect submission or anything. The problem seems to be intermittent, it seems as if part the day it functions correctly, and then suddenly will start doing this again.

    Here are some things I’ve tried:

    – Reset the password
    – Disabled/re-enabled password protection
    – Deactivated and deleted recent plugins (Brute Force anti-malware, Wordfence anti-malware)
    – We have cleaned up several portions of our website to remove files that were deemed malicious (using cPanel on HostGator)
    – Cleared cookies/cache on all browsers

    The problem continues to be intermittent. Any advice out there? Anyone ever experienced something similar? Thank you for your help!

  • Hi innovate317,

    Try reviewing your .htaccess for rules that may be interfering with the password protection.
    Also, enabling debugging may provide a more specific error.

    I’m not exactly sure what to look for, as this is a bit outside my knowledge base. Would this entail editing a setting within a folder/file?
