I already reverted to default theme and disabled ALL plugins and the problem persisted, so I assume it is in the core wordpress files. My issue is that any password protected page I have is not working. After putting in the pwd, the page goes white and the url shows /wp-login.php?action=postpass and it does not move off the white screen. If I hit the back arrow and refresh it unlocks, but obviously this is not good for the end user. Please advise.

Hi @hoffvip, one thing we could try is if you have a password protected test page that we could check ourselves? If you want to do that, please provide a link to the password protected page and the test password to that page only (Not login information to your whole website).

Another thought from me: have you ever reinstalled the WordPress core? You can do this in the backend under Updates via the button there or as described here: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/updating-wordpress/#manual-update

Do you have the same problem in other places? For example, in the backend when you save settings there?

I’ve done some searching on the subject and came across this StackOverflow thread where a user experienced a very similar issue (https://stackoverflow.com/a/66858955).

As per the linked StackOverflow answer:

“Analysis of wp-login.php shows that the described issue could happen if there is no $_SERVER[‘HTTP_REFERER’] in the request.”

Your issue appears to be caused by the “Referrer Policy” HTTP header being set to the no-referrer value (you can see exactly which headers are set on your site with a tool like SecurityHeaders.com).

If I set the Referrer Policy header to “no-referrer” on a test website, the exact same issue starts to occur for me as well. And as soon as I change it back to a value such as “strict-origin-when-cross-origin”, this resolves the problem immediately.

Check with your webhost (which appears to be GoDaddy). They may have a way for you to make these Header changes or be able to do it for you.
