Password reset issues

Hi there.
We’re having issues with the password reset. Initially, we were getting a message saying the password link had expired. This was resolved by following the steps and removing the page cache. So the reset link now works fine, but with new issues.
If I reset my password and then try logging in, I get taken to the forum (which used WP Foro), but with a message saying I’ve been logged out as my account is awaiting approval. That’s as a Subscriber / Registered user.
If my colleague or our client try to log in (both as admins), they get taken to a page with the nav bar and footer, but nothing else.
In both of the above scenarios, the URL ends /login-message
Any ideas what’s going on / where I need to look to resolve this?
