• Just launched a new site with about 3k users. Everything seems to be working okay, other than the Password Reset function. When users try to reset their password, they get an error message and are stuck on the reset page. No reset email sent. I’ve tried redirecting to the standard WP Login password reset page instead, but it gets stuck in an infinite loop (too many redirects).

We’re running the Ultimate Member free plugin with Thesis 2.2.3 and the Derby skin by Themedy, fwiw. When I switch to the Twentysixteen theme, the reset function works. Users receive emails immediately and everything functions properly. Any ideas of where the conflict could be? Please let me know if you need any more information.

Sounds like the conflict is coming from the theme. You will need to either contact the theme developers about this but if they will not make their theme compatible with UM then you will need to hire a developer to write some custom code to make the theme compatible.

    Thanks

No help from my theme support, and thus far my developer friends have no fix. Password reset will work if you’re already logged in, which of course is no help to anyone. For right now, we put up a “for now, contact our administrator to have him manually reset the password” disclaimer. I guess this would be a good thing to look into for the next version of the plugin.

Maybe best to look into another theme if your current theme is the only theme causing this issue.

I know this is support for free users, but your response is very disappointing. I’ve worked with another developer closely to build this site for 8+ months, and we’ve already been paid. The site has been live for two weeks, and there are 3,000+ members actively participating. UM was chosen after many hours of research, principly because of your Directory feature. My theme support just says “get another membership plugin”. You say “get another theme.” This is the only issue we have after working out other bugs, and I really think this should be an easy fix. If I were a paying member, would you actually put effort into solving the problem and at least point me in a direction to troubleshoot it or just brush me off like you’re doing here?

I realise conflicts are frustrating and I wish conflicts didnt exist in the WordPress ecosystem. Unfortunately they do and with thousands of themes and plugins in existance it is impossible to make UM work with every theme out there.

Whilst in an ideal world we would be able to provide support for conflict issues like you have, they are very time consuming to look into and eat up development and support time.

That is why nearly all plugin/theme businesses will give you this response.

So apologies if it came across as brushing you off. Was not my intention and should have explained the reasons why we couldnt support this type of issue in my previous reply.

    Thanks

It’s fine. I was frustrated with the situation. Our developer rewrote some of your code and made it work. Thanks.

    I have the same problem.

Any suggestions how I could fix this?

    Same here.

I first noticed this issue this morning. I changed the UM restrictions on the password reset page to be available only for logged-out users, and set the redirect URL to my password reset page. This works for me at this point.
