past dated posts now getting emailed out

  • due to the wordpress issue where replacing a video URL gets ignored, so that the old URL still displays even after deleting it, I’ve taken to creating replica posts, deleting the original post (after assigning an identical slug)

    but, today, for the first time, wordpress sent out all these posts, that were backdated, as emails too

    did i miss something changing? or did i just get away with it the previous 300 times i’ve done this?

    i’m told the video URL is known about, but isn’t near to being fixed, hence my time heavy solution

    the issue is that we’ve switched from youtube to vimeo videos, so i’m updating the URLs accordingly.

    this is the first time i’ve had an issue with the procedure i’ve adopted

    is there a way of doing what i’ve been doing up to now that will still work? ie let me post a new post, without it being sent out to pour followers by email etc

  • Hey Andy,

    Do you have a plugin like MailPoet or PublishPress that notifies followers/subscribers whenever a certain action is taken on the site? Perhaps there’s a notification setting somewhere in the admin dashboard that keeps triggering when the replica posts are being created.If so, then this could be temporarily disabled while the video URL work is being done.

    Thanks for this.

    We use Newsletter now, rather than Mail Poet. However, I did find we were getting some post not published, when scheduled, so I added a plugin to ensure all posts were published.

    I wonder if that is the culprit? “Missed Schedule Post Publisher”

    If not, I’m not sure where else to look for what you suggest; it makes sense to me – I just don’t know what other settings it could be that I’d need to check/disable.

    Do you have any suggestions for where I could look in the WP dashboard, in case it isn’t that missed post plugin?
