When copying some text and then pasting it into a block, it is pasted with a space before and a space after with the normal Windows Paste operation.

This is the same issue as was previously occurring here:

    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/16172

Is this a known, active issue that is being remedied? If you could advise. Thanks.

    Hi @metaflix,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble here.

I’m aware of a similar Issue which was resolved here

    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/33607

Can you confirm you are on the latest version of the Gutenberg Plugin? If so are you able to share a video of the error occurring and also steps to reproduce?

    Many thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

I’m having the same issue that is addressed in that github link. It began happening a handful of weeks ago, although I do not recall if it came directly as a result of the WordPress update to 5.8.

I am using the latest version of WordPress (5.8.1) which I presume includes the latest version of Gutenberg.

If I were to screen shot the error, I’m not sure where to post the video. My apologies. In order to reproduce:

Use Windows 10 and latest Chrome browser.
    Create a new Post.
Write some text such as “Hello I am some text. Let’s copy me.”
Using your mouse, highlight words in that text, being sure not to copy any whitespace.
Paste the copied text onto the end of a sentence or in a new block.
See that there are spaces added to either side of the text you pasted.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi @metaflix,

I can appreciate that must be frustrating.

Let me respond to a few points:

I am using the latest version of WordPress (5.8.1) which I presume includes the latest version of Gutenberg.

WordPress does not include the latest version of Gutenberg. To enable that you need to install the Gutenberg Plugin.

The Plugin is released every two weeks from work happening the Github repo. Much of what is contained in the Plugin will end up in WordPress Core at some point, but that only happens when a new version of WordPress is released (such as the forthcoming WP 5.9 release).

We maintain a list of which versions of the Gutenberg Plugin are merged into WordPress Core.

In short, if you don’t have the Gutenberg Plugin installed then you aren’t on the latest version of Gutenberg. That’s absolutely fine. The Plugin is less stable than the version that’s merged into Core.

I suspect you will have Gutenberg versions 10.0-10.7 running on your site, whereas the fix to the paste issue was only resolved in Gutenberg 11.4.0. Therefore I’m afraid the fix won’t be on your site.

    You have two options:

    1. Wait for WordPress 5.9 to be released on the 14th December at which point you will get the fix bundled as part of the update.
    2. Install the Gutenberg Plugin. I would however caution that the Plugin moves very quickly and thus you would need to be a lot more proactive about testing and checking your site inline with the 2 week release cycle to ensure it won’t have any problems.

Whilst it’s probably not the solution you were hoping for I trust that clears things up and provides you with some options?

I’ll go ahead and close this one out now, but feel free to respond again if you have any questions.

    All the very best
