The error “Payment provider declined the payment” is a failure that is not generated by our plugin, but comes from PayPal and can be originating in the bank’s system that is handling this payment.
Since our plugin only gives the message and is not the cause of this type of error, you should probably reach out to PayPal Merchant Technical Support and ask them to investigate this error for the Transaction that occurred to. They will need the Transaction ID and possibly the Debug ID from the logs for this payment.
Do I need to check a box to show paypal errors in the log?
Log files are only generated if “Logging” is activated in your plugin settings. You can enable this feature from the “Connection” tab in your plugin settings. Once “Logging” is enabled, every transaction will generate a log entry. Then you can retrieve these logs from the path:
Access the WooCommerce > Status > Logs section, and proceed to choose the most recent “woocommerce-paypal-payments” file.
Is there a way for me to see what could have caused it? I tried to pay and it seemed to work fine.
Just to clarify, the logs won’t reveal the specific reason for the declined transaction in this case. They will have the same information as your order notes, but they do include a debugID which can be useful for PayPal Merchant Technical Support to investigate further.
