    Am I right in thinking there’s no return to Woocommerce on a successful payment that changes the status of an order from “Pending Payment” to “Processing” and that this status change has to be done manually in Admin?

    You are wrong, if your website is live and all routes are accessible it should work. If not check the plugins you have that are not blocking worldpay to post the payment data or if you are on localhost you will need to move to a live server to see that it’s working.
