PayPal account not Synced with WooCommerce
-
My team’s client built this website herself, so we are not familiar with how all the plugins were set up. But we recently helped the client change the name of their URL, we hide their shop pages because she wants to only receive donations via the Paypal donation button that we embedded to the home page, and the woocommerce plugin has been updated to the most recent version. We also renew the PayPal API keys and plugged them back into the Payments tab, but we still can’t see the transactions on the “Orders” tab.
What we see on the “orders” page is “When you receive a new order, it will appear here.” with a “Learn more about orders” button and a “tools for your store” table. When I click on the “Learn more about orders” button, it directs me to download Woocommerce, but we already are using woocommerce? I need help, I don’t normally do this type of troubleshooting.
There is an Action Required: Deactivate PayPal Checkout message, but I’m not sure if this will help.
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

When you mention the “Orders” tab do you mean the Orders section under WordPress dashboard > WooCommerce > Orders?
If so, orders will appear on that page when you’ve set up a store with the cart and checkout pages. You can read more on configuring settings and setting up a store here: https://woocommerce.com/document/configuring-woocommerce-settings/.
Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status so we can have a look at your setup?
You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
Thanks!
Hi @rainfallnixfig
Thank you for your reply.Yes, we don’t see the order history when we go to WordPress dashboard > WooCommerce > Orders. We did up until a couple of weeks ago. Are you saying that I need to rebuild their shop pages and we’ll see the orders, again? We do have the cart and check out page set up from when we had an active shop, but links to these pages were taken off the site, because we only want to have people click on the PayPal embeded donation button and donate. We are not selling anything.
Here’s the system status:

Hey @jfteamvision123199,
Looking at the website of https://savinghawaiisforests.org/ I see this donate button on the homepage.
![screenshot](https://d.pr/i/lgfGsK+)
**Image Link:** https://d.pr/i/lgfGsKWhen inspecting that particular button it does not seem to integrate or originate from the WooCommerce plugin hence you would not see any orders in WooCommerce related to that after using it.
The sites system report shows the site for some reason has multiple PayPal Plugins installed, none of which seem to relate to that button on the homepage, however.
WooCommerce PayPal Payments Advanced Gateway: by WooCommerce – 1.24.9 WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway: by WooCommerce – 2.1.3 Braintree for WooCommerce Payment Gateway: by WooCommerce – 2.6.1 WooCommerce PayPal Payments: by WooCommerce – 1.6.1
The first step in diagnosing this would be to check on the site to ascertain exactly what the PayPal button is displaying on the homepage and figure out where that’s originating from.
I’d also look to see what has changed on the site in the past two weeks as your client by the looks of how many PayPal plugins are installed may have been changing lots of elements.
Hi @stuartduff
But shouldn’t she still be able to see her order history? According to the client, she was able to see all the activity happening on her PayPal account from the Woocommerce order tab on the dashboard up until a few weeks ago. Shouldn’t it be synced if we entered the Paypal API credentials in the Woocommerce Payments section? The checkout, cart, and shop pages were just hidden on the site. Also, the PayPal donation button was rendered on PayPal, and embedded on the site, so it is not connected with Woocommerce. Does that mean that if we can sync the PayPal order transaction activity on the Woocommerce dashboard, it won’t show the donation transactions because it came from the donation button that was created on PayPal?
But I think she was still able to see the donation transactions through that PayPal button come before it disappeared.
- This reply was modified 3 years ago by jfteamvision123199.
Even if the API is entered through the WooCommerce backend, it’s not enabled for donations but for product checkout.
Since the button was directly embedded from Paypal, it can’t be tracked via WooCommerce.
To start collecting donations via Paypal trackable via WooCommerce, we recommend checking out this plugin: https://woocommerce.com/products/donation-product-for-woocommerce/
Hi @oaoyadeyi
Thank you for the clarification. But if the API key is plugged in, shouldn’t we still see all the order transactions from the past, before we hide the shop pages? Right now, we do not see any order history. I’m referring to when people were able to buy things from the website, not the Paypal donation button on the home page.Indeed, you should not have lost any orders previously placed through the checkout page on the site, unless at some point in the last two weeks the data stored by WooCommerce was removed.
Since the site appears to have gone through recent changes, this may have been the case?
Possibly your client has a backup taken before these changes were made, so that you can compare what you see now with what was actually in place a few weeks ago?
Hi @nicw
It could be. We did change the URL name back in June, but I’m not sure how that might relate to why we don’t see the orders anymore. We did update the Woocommerce plugin to the latest version, and it was a big update since no one on their team maintains the site. The only time the plugins get updated is when the client calls us to add pages or troubleshoot an issue (and there are like months in between each time they call us). We do have one backup from when the woocommerce was synced with PayPal, but because we changed the URL name after we made the backup, we can’t restore it for free.We also made new PayPal API credentials because we thought that was the issue, plugged them in, and still do not see our orders. We are at a loss. It would be great if someone had a solution for this. Is there a way to restore the woocommerce data?
We understand if the donations might not show up in the order history, but the client really wants to have the previous orders on here.
Thanks for getting back to us.
Have you set a time frame to retain orders under WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts & Privacy > Personal data retention?
Link to image: https://i.imgur.com/fRTByOG.pngCan you also check if these orders are still stored in the database? Orders live in the
wp_8vvnzztwcm_posts
table wherepost_type = 'shop_order'
. To get a list of your orders, run this SQL query:Select * from wp_8vvnzztwcm_posts where post_type='shop_order'
If you see orders in the database, then you can run a database update and check if they’re back on the Orders page. You could also perform conflict testing, just in case the issue is due to a conflicting theme or plugin.
Keep us posted on this!

Hi @rainfallnixfig
I tried setting the time frame as you have suggested, cleared my browser cache and still don’t see the order history.I am not sure how to run a SQL query to find this information. Can someone please walk me through this? We also don’t feel comfortable changing anything about a plugin. I do basic web maintenance, we would need to ask our programmer vendor, which costs money.
In the Woocommerce status, I do see this:
wp_8vvnzztwcm_posts: Data: 4.94MB + Index: 0.15MB + Engine MyISAMThanks for getting back to us.
Your
wp_8vvnzztwcm_posts
table shows there is some data stored there related to orders. However, I would not touch or access the database if you are not quite sure how to proceed as it could cause more damage to your site.I would recommend reaching out to a local web developer or one of the official WooCommerce partners who can help look into this.
What is relatively safe to do is to first make a full backup and then run a database update from WooCommerce > Status > Tools to see if this fixes the issue. Also, as previously suggested, you might want to try running a conflict test as often plugin or theme conflicts could cause these unwanted behaviors.
You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/.
Thanks.
