• Hi everyone,

there exists the function in Woocommerce –> Emails –> Refunded order to create different subject lines for the emails send out when an order is refunded partly or completely.
I made a test order via PayPal and refunded the money completely back to me. The automatic email I received (as the customer) had the subject line from the partly refunded mail. Although i was refunded completely, the email said “your order was refunded partly”.

Does anyone have an idea what this might cause this issue? Is it woocommerce or paypal? Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?

    Any help higly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Sonic

    Hi,

pushing this as we receive several inquiries from customers who are confused.

    Anyone has an idea?

    Thanks

I’ve also seen this on my site.

I believe this has to do with how you enter the refund amount. If you simply type the entire amount in the box, it will register as a partial refund. You have to select the order items, shipping/tax charges, etc. This should make the entire amount appear in the box automatically. Then click the Refund button and the order status should automatically change to Refunded and the email should indicate a Full refund rather than a Partial.

I discovered this while testing my store before I went live. It has been a few weeks, so I may have forgotten some details, but I definitely recall that I had to select the order items rather than simply typing in the amount. Otherwise the email stated the refund was Partial (even though the full amount had been refunded), and I had to manually change the order status to Refunded.

    Hi jjbte,

thanks for your thoughts. I do not do the refund via woocommerce itself but through the PayPal-Admin-Area. When I prompt there a full refund (by simply clicking in the PP admin on “refund customer”), the customer receives the partial refund email nevertheless.

Any other idea what could cause this behavior?

    Thanks
    Sonic

My guess is that doing it through PayPal is having the same effect as simply typing in the amount via the WooCommerce admin. Either way, you’re not specifically selecting the order items, etc., which triggers the Full refund and automatic order status change.

I would suggest performing your refunds via the WooCommerce admin. You should do a test refund first to make sure the “connection” is properly made between your store and your PayPal account (i.e., the refund is recorded in WooCommerce and the actual transaction shows in PayPal).
