I run 4 sites with WooCommerce. On one site this morning I suddenly saw “PayPal Standard” as an option at checkout. Fortunately the Order made by the client was reverted to “On Hold” due to a validation error. But it caught me by surprise. I do NOT have PayPal Standard plugin activated or even installed although I used it years ago. It does not appear on my Plugins page – but it was in my Woo>Settings>Payment. So where did this come from? Is it related to the recent security vulnerability requiring us to install version 8.9.3? I am running 8.9.3.

I immediately disabled the PayPal standard option in Settings>Payments but I wanted to report this in case others are seeing a similar issue.

    Hi @kimberly189

I’ve tried to replicate the issue you’re experiencing but couldn’t. I’ve updated from an older version to the latest one, and also tried a fresh install. However, PayPal Standard still isn’t showing up. Could you please check if there’s any active code snippet or plugin on your site that could restore PayPal Standard?

The best way to determine this is to conduct a conflict test: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

I hope that helps! Let me know once you have done a conflict test!

I just had exactly the same with a customers site. The paypal account linked was definitely not his.

Edit: the linked paypal account was “[email protected]”.

The site was fully updated two weeks ago, still investigating. Just wanted to let you know this was not an incident.
