• Hi,

When I choose to open PDF with Easy Fancybox, only a grey fancybox is being showed when the PDF is loading. But nothing is showed at the visitor in the meanwhile that the document is loading, which is a problem because they click the fancybox away again.

Also I wonder why the fancybox has a lot of space left and right from the PDF (with the same background), with images it is the same size as image, but for PDF appearently not.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Kind regards,

    Willem

  • Hi Willem, there is no way for FancyBox to determine when the PDF document has finnished loading nor is it possible to determine the optimal width to use for displaying the document. In fact, FancyBox itself cannot display a PDF document at all. It depends in a browser plugin to do that.

So it will not be possible to do the same thing as with images where you see a circular animated ‘loading’ image or any adaptive scaling.

Instead, you will have to do with ‘fixed’ (percentage of browser window or by pixels) frame sizes. To get some sort of loading image while waiting for the PDF document, you will need to make your visitors use another PDF Viewer than the one by Adobe. You can do this by used alternative method 2 on https://demo.status301.net/easy-fancybox-sandbox/pdf-embeds/

Basically, go to https://docs.google.com/gview to determine the embed URL (it must end with &embedded=true) and use that to link to from your site with class="fancybox-iframe" (enable the iFrame option on Settings > Media too!) instead of the old PDF links…
