Hi! A user who views our site (https://www.westcat.org) with JAWs screen reader recently let us know that she was unable to view a PDF we sent her that we had posted on our site. Unfortunately, I don’t yet have information about the browser she was using. I do know that we generated the PDF in the same way that we usually do, and that she was previously able to read the PDFs using JAWs without issue. The only change that I know of is that we recently moved our site to WordPress.

Has anyone else experienced any difficulty using JAWs to view PDFs on a WP site?

Hi @jschnell, How are you generating the PDF? Or are you not and are simply uploading an already existing PDF into WordPress and then linking to that?

PDFs aren’t usually accessible, but efforts can be made to make them accessible using a PDF editing tool like Adobe Acrobat. It would be interesting to know if somehow uploading a PDF is stripping any tags.

We had uploaded an existing PDF. The issue, as it turns out, was with the PDF and not WordPress. I’m not sure what happened this month in the scanning process that didn’t happen last month, but I wanted to check that it wasn’t a known WordPress/JAWS/Acrobat compatibility issue.

That’s understandable, nice that you found the issue.
