Peer certificate error when trying to send email

    Hello. I have been using Easy WP SMTP for more than 2 years with no problem. I am sending email from a gmail account.

    Today I am suddenly getting this error. Warning: stream_socket_enable_crypto(): Peer certificate CN=webhost.geekgoddesswebhosting.com' did not match expected CN=smtp.gmail.com’ in /home/collabinnov429/public_html/wp-includes/class-smtp.php on line 369

    I haven’t changed anything that I know of, but I did update the plugin last week.

    Any clues?

    Where is this warning displayed? Are emails getting delivered or not? Is this domain name (webhost.geekgoddesswebhosting.com) familiar to you?

    I get the warning displayed on the ‘Test Email’ tab of the plugin settings. It also comes up on the web page that triggers sending an email (a form).

    No emails are getting delivered.

    And sorry, I should have mentioned that the webhost.geekgoddesswebhosting.com is the server where my website is hosted, so yes, I know it.

    As a temporary solution, you can enable “Allow Insecure SSL Certificates” in plugin Settings on Additional Settings tab. This should make emails working again.

    Regarding the warning, it doesn’t look like a plugin issue, but rather your domain or server configuration. Brief googling shows it could be fixed in cPanel (if you’re using it) https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/issue-sending-mails-through-3rd-party.554811/

    Thanks. The temporary solution didn’t work.

    It turned out to be a server configuration issue that I didn’t have permission to change. My provider has fixed it for me now.

    Apparently, “Allow Insecure SSL Certificates” option wasn’t working properly as well. This has been rectified in the upcoming version 1.3.4.
