Problem: When the order status is changed from Processing to Pending Payment (as for COD Orders), the stock quantity of items in that order increases back in inventory.

What I want: the Pending Payment Order items should be on hold and inventory should be decreased immediately.
Later on, if the COD is successful and order is marked completed then there should be no change in inventory as already the quantity was decreased. But, if I mark the order as cancelled, the inventory should increase back.

    Hi, @rajhandi88!

Have you checked out the inventory options settings for your shop under WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Inventory? You’ll first want to make sure “Manage stock” is checked and then, you might want to increase the “Hold stock (minutes)” setting there so that stock is reduced for a longer period of time to account for your COD orders. By default, it’s set to 60 minutes. You can set it to, for example, 10080 which would be equivalent to 7 days.

For your reference, if you want to read more about those settings, we have more information here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/configuring-woocommerce-settings/#products-inventory-options

Let me know if that works for you! ??

    Hi, @dcka
I tried this and set Hold stock (minutes) to 43200 (30 Days). Then changed the order status from Processing to Pending Payment. But again, the order item’s Stock Quantity increased.
    The problem is not solved.

    Hi @gabrielfuentes,
Can you help me with this Woocommerce issue?
Why is stock increasing when order status is changed to Pending Payment?
The stock should not increase until I mark the order as Cancelled.
I guess, WooCommerce must look into this issue in future update as it is creating a problem in mainting shop on woocommerce.

I have already tried the suggestion given by @dcka but it has still not solved my problem.

Are you still experiencing this issue, @rajhandi88?

Why is stock increasing when order status is changed to Pending Payment?

Hmmm… this is not standard behavior. When an order changes to Pending Payment, can you clarify if stock stays the same, or is it increasing?

I’ve tested out the inventory options settings I previously recommended to you on my test sites, and it works to decrease stock. This leads me to believe that there might be something in either your theme or plugins that’s interfering with this default functionality.

To confirm if that is the case, you’ll want to run a conflict test. This guide has more information on how you can do that:

    Hi, @albertsauque!

If you are seeing the same issue, according to our forum guidelines, it would be best that you create your own thread since something else may be causing the issue on your site. We would gladly assist you from there!

Otherwise, you can try the conflict testing I recommended above too.

    Hi, @albertsauque @dcka
I am still facing the same issue with “pending payments” order status.
Since, I run an online store and offer cod, the order status is changed to “pending payment” until the order is delivered and payment is received.
Since, the order quantity is not reduced in “pending payment” order status, the same item is available for purchase to other customers (which is inappropriate for an online store as we offer mostly unique products with only 1 item quantity).
I think, WooCommerce must look into the matter as it’s quite problematic for sellers like us.
Awaiting for an Official WooCommerce reply.
    Regards
