Comments are actually handled by your theme. Did you recently update it?

If your theme support doesn’t get back to you let me know and I’d be happy to take a look at your theme’s code.

    Hi Brecht,

Thank you for the quick reply! I am working on this with them as well so hopefully we can get it figured out. It’s just weird that it’s not all posts- only specifically the recipes. I’m trying a rollback plugin right now to see if it is a recent update issue.

Recipes are custom post types, which is probably the cause.
I’d sooner look into theme updates than plugin updates. Comments are handled by your theme and our plugin doesn’t really do anything related to that.

I just tried the rollback to the previous version of the theme and the comments section did not reappear. Not sure what is going on since that didn’t fix it… ??

I have comments on all of my posts except for the recipes. Any idea what the issue could be?

If you upload a zip file of your theme over here I’ll take a look: https://dbinbox.com/bootstrappedventures

Can you walk me through how to do that..? I am not good with code haha sorry!

Just noticed that it’s a free theme. Never mind then, I’ll download it myself and take a look.

Well it’s definitely a theme problem. It doesn’t support custom post types (like recipe) very well.

A few changes are required to the theme files. Are they responding to your questions? It’s not that hard to make it work for recipes (and any of the other custom post types out there) but if I tell you what changes to make they will be overwritten when you update again. So it’s better if your theme developers just improve their theme.

Ahh thank you for looking in to that! Yes he has responded as well. I rolled back to a previous version of the theme to check if that would fix the issue but it didn’t. Now I’m wondering if I ever had comments even available on the recipes before?? *sigh* I’m a new blog so I don’t have many comments happening yet. I can pass the information on to him though since he is communicating! I’m mainly a food blog so I definitely need this part to work :/

Well, if he wants I can point him to the lines he needs to edit in his files, but I can imagine he knows that better than I do.

I will reach out to him then and ask him!

If it matters, I did research and see that I when I used a previous recipe plugin that I was trying out I was able to get comments. So the theme did support that particular one. Not sure why yours would be different though..?

We use custom post types for our recipes. Simply explained: a normal WordPress site has posts and pages. If you install our plugin you get a third type: posts, pages and recipes.

Your theme only supports comments for posts and pages and not for any other custom post types.

Other recipe plugins use a different system and just add the recipe content to a normal post instead of having a separate custom post type. We don’t for various reasons.

    Hi Brecht,

Thanks for all of your help looking in to this! It has been fixed! I’m so glad I didn’t have to change my theme or switch recipe plugins ?? ??

You can mark this as resolved!

    Very happy to hear!
Just let me know if you have any other questions.
