Per category monthly archives

I use something called sortable-nicer-archives. It isn’t a plugin. If you look at my site and click on the Sortable Nicer Archives page, you have various options for arranging your archives.

There may be a plugin or way to do what you want, but I can’t think of how to do it.

does anyone know a way of displaying the archives sorted by category in the sidebar for the theme? I tried integrating the KG archives into it from above, but it doesn’t want to work.

Okay…. I think I have figured out a way to display posts by category, but I can’t figure out how to get it to work with permalinks.

with the default permalinks structure:
https://www.website.com/blog/?p=123

I can get the posts to display by monthfor just one category by:
https://www.website.com/blog/?cat=2&m=200601

But how do you display “per category” with the date and name based permalink structure?
https://www.website.com/2006/03/09/sample-post/

Or do I need to write my own permalink structure to include the category?

Yep.. okay… that did it on my system….. adding a /%category%/ to the beginning of my permalink structure like:

/%category%/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

now allows me to display just the posts for the month for one category via:

https://www.website.com/blog/category-slug/2006/01/

Just thought I would post this for others looking to do the same thing. Now I just have to build a set of links for the sidebar that display the months and links sorted by category.
