Performance / Caching of lists

I have integrated the widget in the footer of the site, and there is an api call to every time it is presented, eventhough i am only using one single mailing list.

it will be great if the plugin will use the built in wordpress caching mechanism wp_cache_get / wp_cache_set for the list, even if for a very small period.
