Performance issues

It seems this plugin causes a lot of lag if used in combination with a smooth scrolling script.
When we remove PIF scrolling through the shop page is just fine. With PIF, it’s like we’re asking our CPU is rendering something out of a Matrix movie. Lot of skipped steps.
Any idea how we could avoid this?
