I’m trying to get an e-commerce “Shop” page set up for my site. I have the “period” theme and tried to use WooCommerce with this. The WooCommerce integration guide suggested updates to the page.php or hooks in the functions.php. I’ve tried both and neither worked for me. Any suggestions?

Or perhaps there’s something better recommended to integrate with the period theme.

    Thanks for using Period!

The Period theme does not have official support for WooCommerce, but basic implementation can be added. I’ve put together a “child theme” that will do this for you. You can download it here:

    Download Period child theme

The child theme can be uploaded and activated like a regular theme on the site. It won’t style the WooCommerce pages on the site, but it will allow the products and their information to be displayed.

Thanks Ben – do you also have a recommendation for an alternative to WooCommerce that works well with Period? I’m not stuck on WooCommerce by any means.

Sure thing, I would recommend Easy Digital Downloads if you’re selling digital products, but otherwise WooCommerce is likely best. There’s a large community around WooCommerce which makes it easier to find plugins and answers to questions you may have than with other alternatives.

I haven’t added any comprehensive integrations with an ecommerce solution in Period yet, but I may do this in a future update.
