• * My permalink structure: /%category%/%postname%/
    * I have activated Archive widget
    * Using WordPress 3.3.1
    * Site in question: https://www.perfectlyproduce.com/blog (Archives appear at the bottom of the rightmost margin)

    Trying to solve a problem with my wife’s blog. It seems that the permalink structure she is using (/%category%/%postname%/) does not jive with the default logic built-in to the Archives widget. The widget does correctly list each month in which posts were made and the correct post count, but clicking any of those Month names simply takes to back to the blog homepage (/blog).

    For example:

    * Clicking “December” takes you to: /blog/2011/12/ which doesn’t exist, so you are redirected to /blog
    * Clicking “November” takes you to: /blog/2011/11/ which doesn’t exist, so you are redirected to /blog
    * Etc.

    Is there any way to make this widget work correctly without changing the permalink structure of the blog? I can’t code but am comfortable enough to make tweaks if someone walks me through what to do (and where to do it).

    I appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then set a custom permalink structure back up again.

    My concern would be that the plug-ins and theme settings would be ‘forgotten’ if I deactivated then reactivated them, causing a heck of a mess to clean up afterward. Is that concern unfounded?

    I’m looking to solve this problem without making any changes to the existing permalink structure because of the potential negative SEO implications.

    All of the above steps should be reversible.

    Thanks esmi. I’ll give it a try and report back.
