  • What have you entered as your Permalink structure so far?

I have used /%postname%/ and //%postname%/, as well as “default.”

So where is the word “home” coming from? Your WP installation is in the root directory, so it’s not a folder name. I am working on a site right now that has Custom Structure and /%year%/%category%/%postname%/ entered, and the page links show up the way you are saying you want them to.

BTW your About page comes up as https://hugonarug.com/about/ which is what you said you want.

When I build a new page, home appears in the permalink. When I publish the page and then type in a browser hugonarug.com/about, I get “Not Found.”

Now it’s coming up as not found with either URL. What have you changed? Are you using a Custom Menu to specify what you want your menu links to point to?

I took the page down pending resolution of the issue. I could republish if you think that would help solve the problem.

So how is it still on the menu?

I am using Weaver and the tab is built separately and then points to the page.

The About tab is? That’s weird. What if you try switching to the default theme temporarily?

I have republished the page – and the permalink now says /home/about-3 and I am unable to change or edit this link, even after clicking on “edit.”

And if I type in hugonarug.com/about I get the not found message.

If I type into a browser the …/home/about-3, the page shows up.

Seems like you had a page called About, deleted it and created another one. That’s the only time I have seen a number assigned like that. The original one may still be in your trash folder.

I still think you should switch to the default theme temporarily and not use a theme that has hard-coded links.

Thanks. that took care of the -3. Now if I could only get rid of the /home/

Sorry for being so dense, Jonas, but I do not understand what hard-coded links vs anything else is all about, and I don’t know how to switch back to the original default theme.

In the admin menu under Appearance you will see where you can switch themes.

You were saying that the Home and About links were written into the theme (i.e. hard coded), so that even if you delete the page the link is still there.
