That’s correct. But I chose that rout because in the default theme, the tabs would always be the first word or two of the entry, as if I hadn’t chosen the static page option. The Weaver app allows me to get rid of unwanted stuff from the WP default settings easily. But those tabs, as I understand them (the ones I have right now) are not causing the permalink problem.

I’m also confused. Why isn’t – for a static page – the permalink style I’m looking for the default? It is the most used style out there. Even though I have checked “custom,” it seems I am getting the default permalink meant for blogging.

The tabs should always display the title that you gave to the page. IDK what “unwanted stuff from the WP default settings” you are referring to but to diagnose a problem you have to level the playing field and rule out the possibilities.

The unwanted stuff is mostly the sidebars and other widgets. I want a very plain page.
Are you familiar with Weaver? I can still do everything the regular way, without using weaver.

Just looking at the manage themes section, I am only offered two themes, and neither one is the original theme. I may have to uninstall Weaver to get back there.

You can download Twenty Ten or Twenty Eleven at Appearance > Themes > Install Themes.

There is a plugin called Widget Logic that lets you choose which widgets show on which pages if that helps.

I am not familiar with the Weaver theme which is why it’s easier for someone to diagnose your problem if they can rule out the possibilities. Almost whenever there is a problem with a WordPress site, the first things to try are deactivating all plugins and switching to the default theme to see if any plugin or the theme might be causing the problem.

In this case the reason to switch to the default theme is to see what links WordPress is putting out for the pages.

BTW you had it the way you wanted it earlier, and I don’t know what you have changed.

I have to bow out for now, and appreciate your help. I will try installing one of the other options you mentioned. Any chance the .htaccess file has anything to do with all this?

It’s possible. You can always put a blank .htaccess file there and when you update your Permalinks WordPress will re-write it assuming that you have the correct server permissions set. Make a backup first in case you have to put the old one back.

    Thanks, Jonas.
