    Hi Chouby,

I’d like to recall the topic https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/create-2-pages-with-same-name-but-different-languages-and-permalinks of approx. one year ago.

I am having the same problem. I need to use the name ‘blog’ for the blog page in both English and Dutch, but we get the urls website.nl/blog and website.nl/uk/blog-2. The same for the contact page where we get /contact and /contact-2. That is not what my clients want ??

I tried with the plugin Ulrich created and advised in a.m. topic, however than I get thse kind of errors on various pages:
WordPress database error: [Column ‘ID’ in on clause is ambiguous]
    SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS wp_posts.ID FROM wp_posts INNER JOIN wp_term_relationships ON (wp_posts.ID = wp_term_relationships.object_id) LEFT JOIN wp_posts AS p2 ON (wp_posts.post_parent = p2.ID) INNER JOIN wp_term_relationships AS pll_tr ON pll_tr.object_id = ID WHERE 1=1 AND ( wp_term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id IN (207) ) AND wp_posts.post_type IN (‘post’, ‘page’, ‘attachment’, ‘revision’, ‘nav_menu_item’, ‘polylang_mo’, ‘portfolio’, ‘avia_framework_post’) AND (((wp_posts.post_status = ‘publish’) OR (wp_posts.post_status = ‘inherit’ AND (p2.post_status = ‘publish’)))) AND pll_tr.term_taxonomy_id IN (145) GROUP BY wp_posts.ID ORDER BY wp_posts.post_date DESC LIMIT 0, 4

I know that WPML meanhwile found a proper solution for this and I wonder when Polylang will offer this functionality? For most (all?) of my multilanguage sites I prefer Polylang because it is much more user friendly I think, but this is really an issue for my clients.

Can you please let me know?

    Thanks & best regards,
    Monique

    Hi
Unfortunately Polylang doesn’t offer this functionality.

I know Chrystl. However I’d like to know from Chouby when Polylang is going to offer this functionality too.

    Yeah,
I got this kind of problem too. But since I’ve chosen ” The language is set from content — Posts, pages, categories and tags urls are not modified”, I manually give appropriate names to my pages, like website/pro-fr, website/pro-ru, etc.
And my posts are automatically classified in language concerned categories, so finally that’s not a real problem for me

    Thanks Anton.

So you mean in our case for the contact page I would manually change the permalink to website/contact-en and website/contact-nl?

When I use the same settings and I do as described, it won’t work for me. In both languages I see only the Dutch (nl) version of the page…

    (@anton-newpointdeviewcom)

Look, I’m not a pro in all this kind of stuff, so I’m not sure it would help, but in my case i got next:
on my localhost I named the front page localhost/wordpress/ like my website’s frontpage in french. The problem I got, when I added ‘en’ and ‘ru’, that in both cases it was showing the French version. So I corrected it to ‘eng’ and ‘rus’. And it worked well.
It concerns only my front page. All other pages do well with ‘en’ and ‘ru’.

May be Polylang staff could explain this phenomenon ?

Yes, you’re right, I am waiting for their reply! I hope they will let me know soonest.

Thanks anyway for your effort and good luck with your multilanguage websites ??

Hi, I got the exact annoying issue as Monique23 states.

What I still not understand though is the reason why this is not possible with Polylang (while it is possible with WPML):

    https://www.mysite.de/en/home
    https://www.mysite.de/de/home

    Also found this link:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/why-is-the-same-slug-between-the-languages-not-allowed?replies=5

Would be great if we could hear back from a Polylang developer on that matter and the possibility of fixing it.

    Have a nice day.

Can I pleassssssssssssssssse get an answer to my question soonest possible?

If I don’t get your reply, I need to use another plugin. I am sorry, but if I have to I will do ??

Just tried this plugin (in development) and it worked for me:

    https://github.com/grappler/polylang-slug

Chouby, could this be integrated within Polylang?

I personally think this is allmost a mandatory feature for a translation plugin.

    (@monique23)

Oh thanks Jory, I will have a try and let you know!

Personally I think it is a absolutely mandatory feature for a translation plugin ??

Couldn’t agree more with what Monique23 states. Jory, that look like a nice plugin but I’d rather go “native” and wait to hear back from a Polylang developer. I can’t image why the functionality of the polylang-slug plugin is not included in Polylang and this issue remains.

Would be great if the developer chimes in. Thanks.

    (@grapplerulrich)

Five months ago the plugin author mentioned that it was planned for the end of the year without any promises. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-use-the-same-slug-for-categories?replies=6#post-7076943

As I found out is not so easy to solve the problem and to make sure it works for everyone.

@monique23 – Do you have a link where I can see the issues you are getting with my plugin?

    Sorry, didn’t see that post.

I would like to help with development of this feature though I can’t find a GitHub or something similar.

I think the polylang-slug plugin I a good starting point. I’ve tested it with some sites and so far seen no problems. Offcourse with permalinks these problems can appear allmost anywhere…

    Ulrich

    (@grapplerulrich)

@keraweb – All of the development is done privately. I hope the theme author can use my code as a starting point. I am planning of looking into same slug taxonomy next. https://github.com/grappler/polylang-slug/issues
